As a new Mercedes owner (C220 CDI Xreg) I need advice on using auto car washes. Will the 3 corner star on the bonnet survive the spinning brushes? Or will it be snapped off?
I am aware of the concerns people will have about auto carwash damaging paint work etc, but I am more concerned about the survival of my bonnet badge.

I previously owned a C200 and occasionally used auto car washes without a problem, the star survived every time!.

The badge will survive fine. It's spring loaded and designed to go flat if pushed (pedestian safety). The car wash wont clean it very well (cant get to the back) and as you say, it will bugger up the paintwork but you don't have a concern with the badge.
Personally, Id rather keep the car mucky than use a machine, especially as there are so many good hand car washes about these days. (gives the illegals something to do too. :D )
