Vito 63 Plate
Hi, Hopefully the right part of the forum for this.

I have a 63 plate mercedes vito, automatic transmission.

This morning ive gone to move it and selected reverse, taken the park brake off, raised my foot off the brake pedal slowly and pressed down on the accelerator slowly but the vehicle just wont move.

it appears like the handbrake is still on, however its not showing as on. The handbrake pedal is fully lifted and their are no wheel chocks.

the vehicle hasnt been moved in a few months however.

all replies and tips to resolve helpful

Parking shoe might be rusted on if the brakes were wet when you parked up a few months ago. Only suggestion I can give apart from dismantling it all is to put a piece of wood across the tyre then clout with a hammer a few times to see if that will break the rust seal.

I'm thinking its in limp mode and therefore won't engage any gear .. unless the handbrake is stuck on.

You can often feel the parking brake release, more often with a thud as springs inside the drum pull the pedal upward. But if one is siezed not so much.

The thing is that MB parking brakes are notoriously cr*p unless they've just been set up, so holding the vehicle while you rev is unlikely to my mind. Overcoming the parking brake isn't usually difficult.

Try driving forward and then reverse a couple of times, you might hear that thud.

If one has seized you wont be able to strip it anyway.

Check the auto fluid level. If low it can fail to engage gears.

Sounds like your brake pads are stuck to the discs. Very common when left standing with handbrake on. Also much easier to free off going forwards!
So if you can only use reverse you may have a problem!

Ccheers everyone, seems a block of wood and a hammer can fix everything
