Auto Gear Slip

Hi I have a 1999 250td 202.128.

it is on 177000 odd miles

Had its most recent service about 5 mths ago where the 0 ring was changed on a leaking gearbox. it was done at a full mercedes sales/garage.

Since then gear engages have got slightly more eratic, I accept that before I may not have been as focused but this morning everything changed.

From cold start it engaged fine and moved up to about 2nd. I stopped at lights and as has happened a couple of times before I have had to rev to about 2500 before getting the gear to engage, this happened everytime I stopped at light. Normally taking the foot off the gas movs the gear down and all goes ok from then. This time however it was stuck in that gear and would not change up or down. I tried stopping and putting into reverse or the other gear options with no success.

On a hill start until I get the revs up to 2500 it will not pick up and the car just roles backwards.

It only changed when I stopped, turned the ignition off and on again and then all was immediatly well for the rest of my journey.

I am presuming from reeding other threads it could be the vacume or maybe the ECU. However I have no idea how the vacume works or where it is and only have some idea of the ECU and how it is affected to other issues.

Would very much appreciate hearing if anyone else has come across this.

Thanks all.

First check is the g/box oil level.
Look under the g/box, is it wet with oil?

Do as Panosonic says first.

It is not a vacuum or ECU fault, it will be a sticking valve

Thank you very much,

I had assumed it would not be the grbox oil level or leak as that was apparently fixed during the last service, but will try both these. Thanks v much.
