auto gearbox help ! snatching gears and sticking !

its an e230 avantgarde 96 w210 ! it drives fine but sometimes sticks in 2nd gear and snatches sometimes but if its doing 60 at high revs and i turn it off and on as im driving it goes back to normal gear (4th) and the local garage guy says its a strip down and rebuild as it shows fault codes. but another guy who has mercs says that these are electronic and have an ecu/brain thingy ! any ideas ??

Start of electronic 722.6 gearboxes - have a llok at the electrical plug for the gearbox as the seals fail and cause oil to leak on to the electrics. then just needs seals replacing

Your fault could be selecter rod adjustment related, when it sticks in second try moving the shift lever to neutral and back to drive.

I have a 1999 E320TD W210, gears stick - usally when I come to a junction it does not shift to 1st but starts in second, some times it will not select reverse and other times will stick in 3rd. Switching off the ignitation and re-starting cures the problem but it seems to be getting more frequent. Manually trying to make it change gears does not work either.
