Dear All

Thanks for reading, hope you can help with my problem!

I have just become the proud owner of a 2003 270 CDI Avantgarte Estate with 100k, and have the following issue….

When driving the car over a roundabout for example (approx 20 - 25 MPH), then accelerating out, the car suddenly revs really high (as if in N), but the transmission does not engage. This has also happened whilst I was driving up a hill, as the gearbox tried to change down a gear.

Happens about once a week

The dash display shows I am still in D, but acts like its in neutral.

If I (whilst rolling and getting beeped at) flip into N then D it engages, or if I turn off then on the car ignition all appears normal.

*** The strange thing is it does not seem to do this if in Winter mode, only Summer, as my cousin has driven this car for 5000 miles previously with no fault (in W mode). I will be testing in W mode for a week or two to see if I get the same problem there.

The car had been stood for 2 months before I bought it only being driven a couple of miles a week (battery issue?). I have been driving it for the last 2 weeks at 300 miles a week.

Car is in my local non MB garage today, and I have asked them to read any faults, change the Gearbox oil and filter if poss (I understand it’s a closed box from reading the posts here), and also replace the battery.

Any further suggestions?

Stipulate that the garage uses MB fluid only, if they change it.

Thanks Guys, I have told them.

They are going to replace the gearbox oil & filter on my request (all MB parts) and check for any alarms.

As a precaution I have asked them to change the battery as its the original. Battery tested OK when I checked it yesterday, but its only £90 (only..!) so worth a punt in case it dropping voltage randomly (seems unlikely)

Its in for a 100k service also.

Let me know if you think of anything else.

Regards

Andrew
