Auto Gearbox problem?? - no fourth gear??

I have a 1991 230CE Auto.  94,000 miles.
Overnight, it developed a dislike of engaging 4th gear.  Apart from this, it is running as sweet as a nut, shows no other obvious problems.

All ok to approx 55-60 miles per hour, then on releasing foot from the accelerator there is a definite pull-back experienced.

On checking the transmission fluid level, all appears ok.

Has anyone experienced anything similar??
Any mechanics make any suggestions please?

Auto Gearbox problem??

try changing the fluid.  If that doesn't work your box is in trouble.  Fourth is always the first affected gear for some reason.

Do I get the feeling that its a bit of a futile attempt and that we might be looking at trouble then?
