Does anyone know if it is possible (or practical) to fit auto on/off headlamps, and what would the cost be?

I am soon to be moving to Spain and, as it is a legal requirement, you have to switch your headlights on when entering a tunnel and, having travelled to and from Spain previously, I am forever forgetting to switch the damn things off.!

As those of you who have travelled in Europe know - there are lots of tunnels.!!

Thanks in advance.

I am assuming your ML is a pre-facelift as i think the auto-lights feature is a standard fitment on facelift models, therefore i would think that fitting them to your ML (if even possible) would be very expensive ...you would need the newer light switch which would have the 'auto' position and also the light 'sensor' which is fitted in front of the rear view mirror.......the major problem would be wiring it into the system (unless the 'auto' feature was an option on the pre-facelift ML's where i would then expect there will be a certain amount of pre-wiring already installed)

Where in Spain are you moving to?

Thanks for your prompt relies.

Yes, mine is the pre-face lift (March 2001).

We are moving to a new house near Los Martinez in Murcia and plan to abandon the UK around February.

Probably not worth attempting the original MB parts upgrade then but check out this link for an aftermarket kit........i'm not sure if the kit in the link is universal or vehicle specific.........i'm sure it could be modified to fit in any case

I am 100 miles north-west of Murcia ...in them thar mountains! :D

OK, daft answer maybe ......but

Would you be as well selling your bus and looking for a facelifted model LHD over here. Buy it cheap (as LHD) everyones a winner?

Alternatively maybe breakers for the parts? My 'stalk' has the auto position that seems to do the headlights, fogs and even locks after a certain time if I leave the car unlocked?

Good luck with the move
