I have a 220cdi estate it has of course the auto option on the lighting switch
B :) ut this seems to be undecided when to operate in varying degrees of darkness and it will sometimes decide to switch on after a few miles into a journey. Is it possible to adjust the sensitivity of the sensor on the wind screen. Also my MPG is not too great what could I expect using Town and Dual Roadways 30 to 70 mph. Thanks for any helpful comments :)

The 'trouble' I have with my Auto lighting is knowing when the lights are ON (apart from night). After losing several nights sleep on this problem I thought 'what the heck - who cares'.
With regard to your m.p.g. use your cruise control and speed limiter. It will save you gallons!! My 270cdi returns 28mpg from cold on a 2 mile round trip to the shops when I set the limiter to 30. On long journeys it's amazing how fuel consumption is improved with cruise control and it's so relaxing.

I was told to use cruise control as much as possible as it will save fuel. Apparently without noticing you can't manually keep a car a the same speed without increasing and reducing the throttle and so burning more fuel.
