Hi all
W169 2010 A160
The lights are on all the time. It has auto lights but naked no difference. As soon as I turn on ignition I have front and rear side and headlights on.
I changed the sensor in the screen. I changed the light switch. The dashboard settings is on manual rather than constant.
many ideas welcome
Thanks.

Being new to this. Is the Sam a unit I can exchange ? Also it doesnt matter which position the light switch is at. OFF or AUTO. The lights are always on.

I have changed a few and they were plug and play.
On yours I wouldn't know where it is, or how easy to swap.
Be sure to get one of the same numbers. I remove, detail the numbers and source from eBay.

If it works great.
If it has the same faults you may or not have a faulty replacement..
If it cures your issue but introduces new faults it's faulty, so return within 30 days.

Your old one with known faults can be useful for future diagnosis.

is this a new condition or a new car to you and has behaviour you don't expect?, if new to you are you aware of the auto light switch and how it works ?

they usually have
off
side lights
auto
headlight on regardless

fairly obviously the auto position often brings side lights on with the key and the headlights on when the light sensor outside in front of the interior mirror thinks its dark enough - the handbook should state exactly what should work in what position for the light switch and the ignition key

usually u get auto wipers with auto lights... if they are operating correctly then its a good indicator auto lights came with the car...

I think that AUTO is pretty self explanatory ... give Martin a modicum of common sense.

AUTO on my R Class did not put side lights on with the key .... and there is no OFF position on my current ML

plenty of people will be getting their first car with auto lights and as you just say they don't all operate the same way... just establishing some ground rules....

surely a better way than swapping out components is to connect up some diagnostics and see if things like the light sensor is switching and providing the messages it should... having just got past the typo in the first post - and reading "I have swapped out bits" I think M80 started in a good place

would it be DRLs designed to be on all the time?
