  I am the proud owner of a 500 Sel 1992 with 116k (GENUINE) on the clock. The car is mint and drives superb apart from a moderate transmission clunk(SOUNDS LIKE IT IS COMING FROM THE BACK END/AXLE?)when i put the car into drive, strange thing is though it doesn't clunk at all when the engine is cold:confused:  Most of the time it isn't that bad................it's probably me being picky!!!!!!!

Reverse gear is fine with no problems at all! Is there anything i can do to stop it (SHORT OF THE GEARBOX OUT).Once drive is engaged it changes up and down perfectly?

Answers on a postcard please!!!

My 300ce 124 suddenly developed a nasty clunk from the back end (felt like the diff was trying to get into the boot) on up shifts - less noticable under load than if you lifted-off. The vacuum pipe to the auto box had come apart (a small blue plastic and a larger black rubber pipe had come apart). Joined them together and hey-presto instant smoothe changes.

Not often you get free fixes!
