hi guys hope all are well

i have a problem that occurred with my05 c209 2.7 diesel, intermitent loss of gear change a while ago ,so full flush etc and has been running fine and upon power, today ,i heard a pronounced whine from the box all changing fine til i lost drive , i have reset the box before , so did so again wow she up and away like she has all her 170 gee gees back then a while later its whining again and no gears n neutral select turn off turn on no more problems no whine no losing gears or power, oh look eml now on (this happened long time ago and went by itself) , got home full reset on pedal no whine ,gave her some boot not lightly alls good , ithink the problem arises when manually changing gear at playtime? but today i just knocked the gear select didnot realise till it did not change up . manual up ok til the above happened , but running all dears with power and eml on seems happy

any pointers please ' relay on box leecy problem or possible plate . just now and again seem to happen very annoying

Check fluid level.
Low fluid can cause whining and loss of drive.

Is your engine stock or tuned? In my experience the box they fitted on the 2.7 5 cylinder only just copes with the torque. They can wear the clutch plates out and slip, usually on second and/or third gear. Need to read the codes. If it’s slipping it’ll tell you

as said fresh oil /flush ,no slipping /not tuned
Also checking the electrical connection for oil is free /plug is clean no oil climbing loom

twice ihave slowed to near stop and drive gone resart the engine drive returns, is now driving fine . all gears with eml on , it will soon switch itself off ,how ,why dunno done it before ,but if i do a reset on the gas pedal the car goes like an icb

if the electric connection is dry but faulty would this cause the intermittent problem, just to throw in the mix it happend long time ago using the box like manual before and after oil change but the box is smooth up and down very light to feel

so got a reader loads of faults all are ps 221 /2500 /220a2562/2561 gearbox issues ithink oil leak on connector and tracking or conductor plate is contaminted , its just had service and wash through with an extra 2l and worked fine
apart from the probs mentioned above it been spot on ,till the other day when i let off the throttle and losta ll gears twice. did not bother with a reset just ign of and start fine again then it done the gear loss again so 2 days later drove to the workshop and nowt wrong even on a manual shift, agh changed down at low speed and there a whine gets louder when revs rise ,then ok again ,so gonna change the pilot connector and clean the tcu ( is it driver side floor or somewhere)
there is no water loss or oil

the other two codes 2563 dirty turbo (town driving slow (her) told her to run third burn the gases/ p222 nox sensor ,it does smell fumey on start sometimes

any input and logic truley welcome

im thinking 500 on plate and oil etc if its not the bush ?!

oh dear
as said had a pre warning before about loss of gears done an oil change, so its happened again as recently said
so checked al the points mentioned , drove it fine all gears and no slipping or loss , so drained some of the recent fresh oil and h2o is present but it must be a little 'cause the surge bottle is near full Always a little below the bar. so it seems as the gears are intermitent the plate is the most likley , new plate /kit oil, filter and rad. just soucing the parts my what a job these chinese are eveywhere . is hungarian made ok seems competitve and some fellows from Wakefield and Thurrock on the bay says genuine mb reasonable (ebay.co.uk/itm/273631658011--ebay.co.uk/itm/264626583898--seem to say the right things phone them i will these guys not to sure (ebay.co.uk/itm/183925972861) opinion aprecciated , also em merc at exeter , give some £££ss for parts ?! ha

If you have H2O in your gearbox - stop!

there was an issue with some Valeo radiators that also have a trans cooler - they fail and fluids mix - very damaging for the gearbox, sometimes terminal!

search valeo radiator on here to get info

yes i know , as said in above post, the gear loss before oil change and now 6 months later , so what i shall do before flashing the cash - is drain oil replace and prestone rad take for a run check the box ( its the whine that most concerns me,) if it gone i shall procced with plate etc . ithink it the cheapest way to check before expense , she's old and 240k but the wife like her and i'm not gonna argue ha

Any coolant in the fluid will have damaged the clutch plates. Look for any discolouration in the fluid from overheated plates.

If the car i otherwise decent then a complete rebuild is better than getting something else unknown and starting again.
Not cheap though at around £2k.

ok guys sussed the problem , ie found the source of the occasional noise , not the plate or the speed sensors etc but belive it when i say it,s the pump ,picked up muck from the cooler and converter and there you go . one stuffed auto box .

That'll do it. How did the muck get there? Can only be disintegration of the friction clutches.
