I have a year 2000 e200 mercedes 4 door automatic.
On friday when I was out driving I noticed part way thru my trip that KICK DOWN was not working.
later on I approached a set of traffic light and put selector into P. When I attempted to move selector out of P into D it would not release.
I switched off engine and when I tried to restart it would not start.

Had to get towed to home.

Ihave tip auto gearbox.
Is there a sensor which can be activated inadvertantly when using tip causing car to stick in gear even though lever selector is moved to P postion thus causing ignition modult to inhibit ignition thinking that car is still in gear and if so can it be reset.

HELP PLEASE!!

read about this fault in other posts, is it the brake pedal switch or the electronic gear lever

there is an interlock, the electronic gear lever cant be moved until the brake pedal is pressed so if there is an ABS or brake pedal switch fault you cant select a gear normally

not too sure why the engine will not start?

relaced air mass sensor about 6 months ago and brake lights are working.

was able to release from park bue no joy with starting car.

I think there coud be a fault either with transmission sensor or ignition module?
