anyone give advice on whether gearbox oil should be checked with engine running or not and also gearbox wont change gear ,just suddenly occured ,,mercedes c180 sport P reg
hi geoff
well came off motorway and everything was ok parked for few minutes then restarted thats when i noticed gears wernt changing ,hadnt been having any probs, dont know much about mercs
I had a similar experiance the box would not change gear and i had to limp home quite slowly, the abs light then came on. Turns out it was a ABS sensor had blown causing the box to go into limp mode, had the sensor replaced and all was OK, are the revs limited as mine were when this happened.
no revs are normal and no warning lights have came on ,had gearbox oil checked it showed empty (engine not running at time of checking)mechanic topped up ,but think he should have checked it with engine running cos when i took it for a run round the block oil started to leak out bottom of gearbox ,think he over filled it ,any idea what damage this may have done
hi daveenty, its up on ramps just now, thought maybe cos hes overfilled it ,thats causing the leak from the gearbox pan, when you rev it you can see the middle of the pan pushing down as if there to much oil in it,
do you know how to take it off limp mode mate
Could be the Box Oil Temp sensor, ......if the oil is too hot it (Should) stop you from moving the gearstick from park to anything else (Until it's cooled down) then again I have known them to shift into "Limp" mode until the temp drops
In theory, it should come out of limp mode be itself .....ie when you switch on it will go thru its diagnostic checks "See" everything is OK & then run "Normally" .......If however it does "See" a problem it will continue in Limp mode until the faulty part/problem is recitfied
