I noticed this morning that pretty much every car, except ours, had their side lights on as it was quite dull and dreary outside. I know I can manually adjust them with the switch that is somewhere on the right of the dash from Auto to whatever else is on it, but honestly it would be far easier if the stupid lights just came on. Is there any way I can adjust the sensor so that they automatically come on sooner than they are right now, if that makes sense :)

I find that my lights frequently come on sooner than many others' do when set to AUTO. There might be a setting via STAR (I doubt it though) but you can't alter the sensitivity. Just turn the switch to 'ON' if you feel you need to.
The other cars probably had their Daytime Running Lights on rather than their side lights as did your car ;)

Thanks for that, not sure what Daytime Running Lights are and how I would know if they are on? Usually I notice 2 green icons on the left of the steering wheel when the auto lights are on. I just downloaded the Mercedes Me App but all it's telling me is really basic stuff like my car is locked ;)

DRLs are those lights at just the front of a car that are always on when the engine is running. Have a look at the front of your car ;) (I assume your car is new enough to have them .... ) https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/daytime-running-lights/daytime-running-lights

Likely you can turn DRL's on via the on screen menu.
As said, on mine, the engine needs to be running for the DRL's to illuminate.

Well I just nipped out and had a quick look and yes we do seem to have DRL's, although Keith is still adamant we haven't and says he won't believe it until he checks. I know I'm female but hopefully I'm not totally stupid

Send him a picture of your car with the DRLs on ;)

Some DRLs dim when the proper lights are on & some just go off completely

I realised we had a camera out the front so I just did a screenshot from when we came home this morning and yes there are lights, can't believe we've had the car all these years and neither of us had a clue :D

You may have read the threads that talk of many who forget to switch lights on at night because they have the DRL's on, forgetting that there's nowt at the rear.
But lights in auto remedies that anyway.
