Hi folks,
The aux drivebelt started slipping on my 300te recently. I thought I would have a go at retensioning it.
On looking in the haynes manual it pointed out a brass nut at the top/right of the engine near the power steering pump. This in turn connects to a threaded shaft disappearing into the depths (to tension the belt)

However.....

The nut doesnt appear to be connected to the thread. What seems to have happened it that when it has not been connected properly, meaning the belt has not been tensioned properly (it is about a year old). And now with age, it has stretched, causing the noise.

Does anyone have any hints other than loosening the power steering pump and generally turning a minor job into a major one.
Needless to say I cant drive it now as people fall about laughing.....

Thanks in advance
Mike.

Mike.

Not wishing to sound condescending, but have you losened the allen bolt in the centre of the tensioner pulley???

If you don't you can do what you like to the adjuster nut, but nothing will happen.

Hope this is of use.

dave,
Tks for the reply,
Is that the smaller one roughly to the centre of the rest of them that should have a plastic vover on?

I had a go at that one, wouldnt move at all.
Do I crack that one in order to move the other brass one?

(I can feel a sheared bolt coming on!!!)

Regards,
Mike.
