Aux Heater

Hi, I have a c220cdi W202 which has an auxillary heater, well it has a switch to turn it off, but how do you know its working? where is it? the car doesnt seem to warm up any quicker than you would expect in cold weather, its supposed to come on below 5 deg, thanks for any help Steve.
