Hi all..
Its 6.50 am and its a sunny day ..
All that apart I was wondering how often the Auxilliary belt needs changing on a 2003 C270 CDI?

Thanks in advance

This is not a time thing, its more a condition thing. It is checked on a B service for any cracking or fraying, just check at the edges of the belt, look for any crazing where the belt passes over a small pulley wheel. The inside should not be too glazed and the grooves riding on the sides of the V's and not the bottom.

Very long time, i have seen trucks at work coming up for a million kms with their original belt on!

Iirc its something like 8 cracks to the inch per groove then its dead, but as said if very shiny or even some cracks i would replace.

I would bet so long as the there is no component failure its almost good for the life of the car.

Quick google reckons 5 years or 50k, and i remember when i did a few cars a new cambelt was also a new aux belt, so approx 70kish

Once again a big thank you for sharing your knowledge..
Mine isn't so much cracking as it just looks "Tired" if that makes sense..
I suspect its the original. Though 39000 miles old its also 6 years old.

For what they cost change it and use it as a spare, you can relax for another 40,000 or six years, better to be safe than sorry. I have known them to break at 50,000, and where would you get one if it brakes over the week-end
