All,

B service is due on my car soon. My friend is a trained mechanic and is used to working on MB. With the age, value and milage I think this may be the best option for service.
My car is a SL320 with 78k miles. Prevoius servicing has all been done at MB dealers, however as the previous owner only did 3-4k a year I think the last B service was in 2002 when car had done 55k.

Anyway, big question is do I need to change the gearbox oil and filter?

Planning to do coolant and brake fluid also.

Vehical ID is 1290632F1556169

Hi,

Have done that and contacted two independents in the Glasgow area.

B service at main dealer was quoted at £400 + VAT

The two independants quoted £225 and £240 + VAT. Recomended not touching the gearbox oil till car had done over 110k miles.

Parts from Euro are £60 for plugs, air and oil filters, semi oil.

add pollen filter +£18

Still thinking of buying the parts and getting my friend, who is a trained mechanic to do the business.

I had a B service carried out 2 days ago and after collecting the car it only managed 300 yards before losing power and blowing lots of smoke out the exhaust. Presently it's with Mercedes awaiting a strip down & diagnosis.
Hope yours goes OK.

I'd rather not say, until I have it back & repaired (It is a MB dealer though). The garage at the moment consider it pure coincidence that it happened after the service.

I did try to book it into one of the Stratstone garages in or around Glasgow, on three occasions using the book a service page on their web site. Three times I got a standard response that someone would deal with the enquiry without delay and then nothing. So I went elsewhere as they did not seem bothered in my business.
