Hi all,

New here. Just bought a second hand 2014 B180. Had a good look round it and test drove but after a couple of days we are having some issues.

Firstly, after a small drive my wife noticed smoke coming from the bonnet. I called the AA, they pressure tested the coolant system which showed no leaks. They also ran a diagnostic which showed no issues.

Today with a cold engine I put my hand round the back of the engine and felt fresh oil dripping from the bolt in the photo I think.

From cold the engine seems slightly rough for the first 10-15 seconds then settles into a normal idle. On starting the exhaust smells like a very old diesel.

Any ideas?

My second issue which I feel might be the cheaper issue, the parking sensors don’t work. I get 4 red lights on the Parktronic and then it deactivates. If you try switching it back on it ‘errors’ again and switches off.

Thanks

Welcome. I can’t help with your technical issues but, if you bought it from a dealer or trader, you have Consumer Protection Laws on your side, so get them to sort the problems. If it was a private purchase, then it’s up to you, I’m afraid.

This one is slightly further back from the engine. The photo is of the rear of the engineer, pretty much centre of the engine.

That looks like the turbo oil/drain pipe is leaking. Unless its leaking onto the exhaust manifold, I don't think that will be the source of your smoke.

One or more sensors are faulty for the parktronic system. Use diag to test each one to identify which needs replcaing.

Thank you for your reply! After having another good look this evening all the leaking oil seems to be around this same area and is where the smoke was coming from.
