My B250e now the weather has changed doesn't stay in EL mode at start up. Does anyone else have this problem?
It will stay in it when set. Just doesn't start in it.

Hello and welcome,

The parameters are not being met to enable the mode you want unfortunately. EV’s and Hybrids are great in the brochure and design lab, not quite so great in reality…

Heating settings is probably triggering the engine to kick in for additional power.

I know. But I can select the mode I want. Why does it default to a different mode just because of temperature? I've bought a plug in hybrid because I want to use electric as much as possible. Let me choose!

Best temp for a EV lithium-ion battery is between 15 & 35C, you cant change science.

I know I get less miles per KWh but I still want the choice. Why doesn't it allow me to make the decision?

I can run in EV mode. It just doesn't select it by default. If I can run in EV mode when I select it. Why won't it do it by default? It also defaults to hybrid mode when I turn the heating and AC off

It's just software defaults. When we had the very hot weather it defaulted to hybrid. Why can't I choose how I use the car? I want to choose the mode I drive in not Merc.

I think a lot of EV owners are starting to realise that what was tried and tested in ideal factory conditions don't always work in the world of proper temperatures.
I was keen to buy an EV a good number of years back, but having a good automotive back ground and asking all the right questions, I was taken off the list to purchase a new EV. So far everything I asked is never told to the prospective customers. I have a few friends who have gone down the EV or HEV and are finding out capacities, distances and what works and what doesn't when it's supposed to.
This kind of happened with diesel emissions a while back, nothing seems as it should be.
Cold conditions have a huge effect on many things not just electronics.

Cars are designed and made by engineers and as such they don't think in the same manner as consumers.
The engineer will think - battery charge is low due to temperature therefore as I must charge it or as its cold we need to heat the cabin quickly, therefore I'll run the engine and boost the warm up time.
It's the same with Start-Stop or ESP, they 'll be thinking we've added these items to the car why would you not want to use them? As such they will default to enabled on every start even if you've selected to turn them off.
