VW Scirocco. The Quattro, E350 CDi Blue Efficiency Sport Coupe, now both gone
I bought my E350CDi Coupe at the end of March this year and have done some 5k miles since.

I was assured that a service had been done as part of the sale however, while out today the warning "B3 Service due in 30 days", flashed up on the dash just prior to starting the car.

My question is :- what's involved at this service?
Also, could this be showing because the car was purchased from a non Mercedes, independent garage?

Recommendations please?

Did they give you a copy of the service sheet Jim ? It could be that they just didn't reset the service indicator gismo, or didn't know how to. :)

No, they didn't now that you come to mention it. (Statement made after frantic search through all documentation).

"It could be that they just didn't reset the service indicator gizmo, or didn't know how to." Sounds reasonable so I'll ask.

Let's hope they did service it after the "spanking" you have been giving her :D . They should at least have the "record" on their paperwork ? Make sure they used 229.51 spec oil .

Does anyone know what actually gets changed at the B3 service?

I'm thinking of just replacing every filter and the oil, quite possibly the g/box filter and oil too.

I would imagine your car still uses the "service every year" maintenance schedule and that the 30 day notice will coincide with its birthday.

I think a B service is a major service with mileage dependent "extras" if required , such as ATF change which will be mileage dependent.

Does your car have the digital service history through MB or have any previous services been carried outwith the dealer network and if so do you have a record of what has been done ?

I was thinking wriggle room for money back or a free service :D

I doubt very much that will ever happen Wighty, if I was dealing with a sole proprietor there might have been a chance but, it was two partners one of which was absolutely spot on and the other .....wasn't.

Fortunately when I had the issues with the brake discs I was dealing with the good guy who took the long term view that he wanted an on going customer. The other just wanted to make as much money as possible out of me.

I have reached the conclusion that if I went back and made any ... demands/requests ... I would quite likely just be shown the door and none to politely, if it was the, 'wasn't' guy. I got what I wanted at the time and I reckon it would now be a case of, "too much time has passed, waffle, waffle, waffle, beat it you chancer."

I don't need the grief tbh and for all it'll cost me, I would rather sort it myself. Lesson learned as they say.

Kenny

After a long look through the service records for the car I have discovered that the car has had most of it's servicing done annually as the mileage is very low for it's age.

The B4 service is the big one where every filter is replaced and the gearbox oil and filter was also done at this time.

The first four services were carried out by Western MB in Edinburgh and the next four were carried out by a Mercedes Independent Specialist one, T. J. O'Neill Ltd. who, is recorded as having done the G/box filter and ATF at just under 16K. According to Wighty's information the ATF and G/box filter should be replaced every 37.5K, so... we are ok there for another 30K. Hooray!

I don't have a job sheet or receipt for the service of the car at point of sale so.... I think I will proceed with my plan to replace all the engine filters and the pollen filter and then fall into the MB regime, that way I will know all the whens and wherefores and the car won't suffer at all.

Thanks Wighty! Noted and copied, it will be adhered to during my tenure of the E350 CDi Coupe.
