I have been looking for a forward facing baby car seat with transponder for children aged between 9 months and 4 years for my SLK. Wondering if anyone on this forum has one that is no longer used and in good condition and is willing to sell. Please let me know.

Baby Seat

I thought that I new all that there was to know about baby seats but I have to admit that I dont know what a Transponder is. I suspect many of our fellow respondents are similarly in the dark. Could you clarify please?
Also just wanted to say congrats on having a baby seat in your SLK. I have a C-Class sports coupe and take a lot of stick about it being impractical for a mum of two. I love it because if is sooo not a mummy car!

Baby Seat

As I drive an SLK there are only 2 seats and there is no facility to switch off the airbag in the front. Mercedes make their own brand of car seats and after getting very frustrated with placing my baby in the back of a 2 door golf, I gave in and bought a mercedes car seat which has a transponder (electornic or wireless) device which sends a signal to car's computer to switch off the airbag, very clever. However I now need to upgrade to a forward facing car seat as my baby's legs are half way up the seat and the mercedes car seat is a staggering £450!!! Its great still being able to use my car however, sadly I will have to sell up soon and get a family car!! In the mean time I am looking for a forward facing seat if anyone is wililng to sell me theirs.

Hi

Please research this further, but, as far as I know there is not the same issue with front facing child seats as there is with rear facing. The whole point of deactivating the airbag for rear facing seats is because when the airbag goes off it will strike the back of the child seat and propel it backwards.

The passenger airbag will be fine with a forward facing seat - although I'm not too sure about the side airbag. Failing this - look on Ebay, as I type this theres one on there for £75.

Guy.

IMPORTANT - GPILKO IS WRONG

Ideally you should not place a baby inthe passenger seat in a forward facing car seat if the passenger airbag cannot be de-activated.

The vast majority of advice on this issue is as above.

THOUGH WELL-MEANING, YOU SHOULD NOT GIVE ADVICE ON SAFETY ISSUES ON WHICH YOU ARE CLEARLY NOT AN EXPERT.

Thank you for the advice that is being given, in order to de-activate the car seat I do need a mercedes one with a transpoder (child safe system) so if anyone has one then please get in touch. I do look at ebay and have seen a couple but so far I have been unsuccessful.
