Would anyone know if it is possible to fit a baby seat in the rear of a Early 80's SL. If so who might be able to supply aprts.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
if you have the rear seat option, these are already kiddy seats. Nip down to Halfords and have them try a few in your back and you'll see how cramped it gets there. You can have one up front in the passenger seat, and SBS Quickfit ( Google them) do a three point conversion for the lap belts in the back.
If you don't have the rear seat option, it may be possible to still fit the 3 point belt, but I'd ask SBS or Britax whether this a goer. Or Merc even, after all it is their car. Mercs own seats are Britax -Romers, but with special trom and electronics for airbag models.
Do what Myros says, I understand and have looked this up that even if a car was not supplied with belts , the mounting points are there, So at least you do have a good fixing point,
I've recently installed a lap belt for the same purpose. The mounting points are easy enough to find and the belt easy to fit. My daughter is 2 years and has plenty of head room. Best keep the roll bar up for safety although this slightly obstructs vision.
Once the child 'outgrows the car' perhaps some sort of harness fed through the lap belt could be used...but that's for the future. Ed
You can use the lap belt in conjunction with one of those table things through which the belt passes, which stops the kiddy pivoting forward and braining themselves on their knees. It's definitely for the older kiddies though, and not for toddlers. Under fives should be in an Oyster type seat restrained by a four point belt in the kiddy seat, which is either 3 point belted or iso-fixed to the car. In specifically designed kiddy seats like the 107, you can get by with them in a 3 point set-up, but they do have to be a certain weight/height/age criterion. That nice man at SBS quickfit knows all the answers.
