Wow, this forum as ace. Very useful already.
The back end on my car suddenlt went very high and bouncy!!
I read and found on this forum that the link for the self leveling can come adrift.
It had!
BUT...... Even now re-connected (with tie wrap until I sort replacement parts) the back end is still too high, although the car now handles fine.
Is there a resetting procedure I should folow?
Any help or guidance gratefully received.

I actually asked Hibbo this very question earlier today

There are a couple of common rear suspension failures: back end rock-hard, which is caused by failed suspension spheres, and back end bouncy & floaty

If you have the latter it's related to the self-levelling (everything is) but I don't know the exact diagnosis. More than likely it's failed suspension spheres again

If it's just too high, and the damping is OK, then you need to adjust the link rod on the height adjuster. It has a pair of adjustable ends. They cost about £4 each to replace

Replacing the spheres is not a diy job unless you really like getting your hands dirty. I'd take it to your nearest w124 independent garage or, at a pinch, to a local Citroen specialist. Replacing the link is easy so long as you can get under the car

Whereabouts in the country are you?

The ride height is adjusted by adjusting the adjustment on the link :)

Chances are that your tywrap bodge has left it incorrectly set.

Does the car move up and down when you manually move the link bar (with it disconnected)?

I've given what I think is going on with bouncy rear ends :) on t'other thread. Just a guess though - does it sound plausible?

thanks for the response.
back end went very high and car very bouncy and almost undrivable.
Jacked back up on diff and found lever, connected it back up.
Drove as normal then, but back stayed high. Also lever has stayed in.
Put tie wrap on as lever can easily be pulled out of socket, but dont think it is affecting performance.
I will put it on ramps and manualy operate lever to see if ride height alters.
I live just south of Derby, does anyone know of a local W124 specialist??

back end seems to have settled at a sensible height now!
Will check with loading lots of stuff in at the weekend.

Hi

There were some instructions for re-furbishing the SLS valve on 123/124s being offered on this forum a couple of years ago by TimN - does anyone have access to this info? Or, are you there Tim?! Bouncy rear end on my W123 200T driving me demented.

Many thanks

Simon, I've passed your email address on to Tim. I've got his w123 steering box guide and it is very well written, good bloke.
