Back up battery

SL500 2002
Hi all

I have a 2002 SL500 right hand drive.
In the passenger footwell I have found a 6volt battery which is badly corroded and only measures 0.4v. It is connected to the GPS aerial module I have not been able to source any information about it. What fault would it cause?
