Folks..i have a very bad leak coming down the side of the passenger footwell (UK car)...rainwater has been pouring in and the car stinks of damp!..when i pop the bonnet i can see a build up of water behind the aircon box unit at the corner of the windscreen..how do i take this unit out to have a closer look?..is this a common problem in clk's and if so then thats bad build quality!

Thanks..

It is most likely that the drain holes are clogged with leaves. Hardly a build quality issue, more of a lack of owner maintenance.

I use a shop vac to suck out all the gunge. It is also worth cleaning out the drain plugs from the bonnet vents as these fill up as well. Patience and small fingers are always useful. Putting the bonnet fully up into service position makes it easier to gain access.

There are many mods for leaking roofs right across the range of metal folding roofs. Most include the fitting of new rubbers, do you know where it is leaking, today having just taken some of my 230 to bits I have found some water marks in the boot, though my car will never go out knowingly in the rain, I may get caught out. If you have any idea where it is leaking let me have your VIN first 6 numbers.

bad smell as well as leak

It was defo leaking due to the drain blockage in the 'plenum' box. Any ideas on how to remove this box and clean out?

Also, the a/c does smell very bad so i really could do with cleaning the whole system..which filters would I replace and how do i get rid of the smell?

Thanks again

Hi guys

Just got in the car after work and started the engine.

I am sure that I heard some strange water type noises, possibly from the aircon. Now it was dark, so I could not see what was going on, however on close inspection water was pouring in through the passenger footwell. It seemed to be dripping in from the underneath of the glove compartment.

There was a lot of rain today in Manchester. Is it a leak, or would you think that I have a more serious aircon prob.

Help!

Hello again to you,, the air intake box is blocked with leaves etc, you need to remove the grill in front of the screen and clear the drain holes, do this sooner rather than later as it could knock out the heater fan control unit

Thank you very much indeed Malcolm, I will have a closer look tomorrow in the day light. I just recently vacumed the engine bay clear of leaves. Closer inspection with a torch this evening and I could see down in behind the wing. Full of soggy leaves and twigs!

I hope to resolve the problem, thanks again for the advice.

Cheers

Jamie

Yep!

Up first thing and removed the grille got my hands in and removed a fair bit of gunge from the drain hole on the passenger side. There was still water trapped in the box aswell.

One question, is there only the one drain hole? I could only find one. Anyway the problem seems to be resolved. I was surprised of the positioning of the drain outlet, it seems to let the water and leaves etc drain on to the inside of the engine bay. There is also a large amount of debris collecting inside the wheel arch which I cannot get to. I looked underneath just aft of the left front wheel to see if there was any drain or access in. Seems that I would have to take off the inside of the arch to clear it?

Thanks anyway.
