Bad Vibrations

I'm new to the forum but was wondering if anyone else had experienced severe vibration on the driver's side of the engine compartment on an E270cdi. Mine is recently purchased on a 54 plate (bought about a month ago from an MB main dealer) and is vibrating so badly that the air filter box is just a blur when the engine is idling. I've been told it could be the turbo that's out of alignment. The other side of the engine is calm as it should be. I've had E-Class Mercs for 20 years but never experienced anything like this before. Needless to say its going back to the dealer, hopefully to be fixed under warranty but the dealers around here have a poor reputation and I expect will try to fob me off so it would be good to compare notes with anyone who has had a similar problem.

My last car (which fortunately I haven't sold yet) was a 99 320cdi and it still runs like a dream. I'm beginning to think I might have made a mistake with the 270. What do people think? Is this just bad luck or are the 270cdi's plagued with problems?

PS Great forum, I've learned a lot already.

If you are still under the 30 days return policy, you should reject it and get another one that has not got the problem

sadly, over 30 days (just) I'm partially deaf in one ear so didn't notice it from within the cabin as only a bit of the vibration is transmitting through it. Makes hell of a racket from the outside though. When I became aware of it I took it back and they replaced the inlet manifold to the air filter and said that it was an improvement. It wasn't however. I may be in for a long battle with a crappy dealer I fear.

I have read about some cars, diesels, having engine mounting problems. The bottom crossmember is also known to corrode and a severe rust problem and corroded fixings could cause a problem too. You need to check this out because these are usually very smooth cars.
