Hi Folks
Tyres are Avon ZZ3 245/40/R18 and are on the front of a W210 1998 E Class 300 TD Avantgarde.
Problem is today i noticed that both tyres are very badly worn on the inside. I went to a tyre depot and they tell me it is not the steering that needs lined as only a 1/4 of the tyre breadth is worn and if it was the lining it would be 1/2 the tyres breadth worn. They seem to think it would be some other problem (ie ball joints) that i will need to fix before replacing the tyres.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards
Brian

Was an E300TD, now a Lexus LS400
Jack the car up and pull/push/move the wheels around, if you can detect any play up/down then bits are going to need replacing.

I'd try and eliminate any worn/loose bits in the front suspension before you consider an alignment, for instance replacing the ball joints will knock any alignment you have done, back out.

Your tyres are quite wide and wide tyres do wear more on the inside edge, what are we talking here 1mm or 2 from one side to the other.

I had a wear on the outside of the front tyres, took it to the merc garage and did a 4 wheel alignment. It did the job, the handling is also much better now.£85 +Vat. made a mistake last year and did a 4 wheel laser alignmenet in a tyre and exhaust place which they managed to ruin the settings.
