hello y'all...
i have to replace the ball joint beneath the stub axel on the suspension arm...i have to press it in, right? or can it be stuck in? the lack of press leads to this supposition but working legs will do the right thing.

You should be able to remove it with a ball joint wedge--good sharp knock- the new one will tighten in with the wieght of the car on -no need for a press --check it again to make sure its tight and put in a good split pin .

W123 lower ball joints aren't easy.

Owing to the shape of the stub axle, it's very difficult to get in to push the old ball joint out.

Unless you have the tools, I would approach it as I do W124 ball joints, and weaken the ball joint using a few carefully placed hacksaw cuts.

Pressing the new ball joint in is less difficult, but, if you don't have any suitable tools, it might be much easier to simply remove the stub axle from the car, and get a garage to swap the joint over - it shouldn't cost much that way, as you are still doing most of the labour.

Usual warnings about coil spring safety apply.
