Hi

I get this (slightly muffled) banging noise from down by my feet when driving over rough surfaces on the road, when I press the brake pedal slightly it goes away? I thoght it might be a suspension noise but this surely means its not. When I have a look at where the brake pedal is I can see/ feel that the rod that connects the pedal to the brake servo seems quite loose, is this a problem? What can i do to fix this :?:

thanks for any help..

If the 124 is anything like the 123 then the self levelling suspension flow and return pipes pass under the driver's floor pan. Not all saloons were fitted with the self levelling suspension. If one of the fixing clips is missing, or replacement pipes have been badly fitted then they can bang against the floor. The fact that the noise stops when braking could be because the engine is not revving and so is not pressurising the system. This happens on mine when going over those infernal speed bumps.
