Barum or Continental or Vredstein?

Hi All

I need to replace the tyres on my W202 180. It's wearing Continental premium contacts at the moment. Can anyone offer any advice as to whether the Barums or Vredsteins are comparable? I am more concerned with lifespan and noise along with price rather than ultimate handling through corners as I don't race about everywhere (not possible even if I wanted to in a 180!). Although obviously wet and dry grip in terms of braking is important. Also any ideas of the difference between the Continental Premium Conact and the Eco Contact? Any thoughts?

Regards

Update... I have gone for the Continental Premium Contact 2 (£58.35ea fitted) after a long consultation with my local tyre specialist about the pros and cons of various makes inc Avon, Goodyear and the budget ones mentioned above.

I was quoted £90 for the same tyre by National although they probably would have come down a bit. The Barums were £53 so no contest really.

Thanks, I will be interested to see how they wear. My reason for changing is a slow puncture. I am only changing 2 as the others still have 4mm tread. I do suspect however that they have been on the car for a while as there is evidence of some very slight cracking in between the treads. As the car was lady owner for 9 years I dont think the tyres have been abused so it would appear that the wear rate is good.

Modern day advice is tyres should not be used if they are over 6 years old as the rubber degenerates. If you can see cracking between the tread it may be worth checking the date stamp on the tyre. If it is 9 years old, you may want to change them too, regardless of 4mm tread being left.

Thanks Russ, I will have a look. Regardless of the age I will keep an eye on them though. Can't be too careful with tyres I reckon.
