hello, i'm new to this forum so please excuse me if this has been covered before
I have a 97 c240 estate, my problem is the bas/asr light comes on intermittantly switching of re sets it. it will come on in the first few miles ,but never after i've been running a long time
oil low warning light comes on for a few seconds (again intermittantly) switching off then resets, plenty of oil in engine
Are these warnings related ? is there some sort of electronic control problem
or might they be independant, not sure where to go from here.

another question i have is what are the two fans on the outside of the radiator for are they part of the air con cooling
thanks
mike

Oil level display could be a faulty sensor, where as bas/asr light could be either steering contact ring behind steering wheel or a faulty bas control mudule.

The 2 fans you've got - 1 is engine cooling fan and the other is air con

I've had the intermittant bas / asr light (on a 99 c43) aswell. Not long after it started the battery ran out of steam. Put a new one in and the problem went away.

This was after putting in a new brake light switch, which made absolutely no difference at all - on the advice of a friendly mercedes service manager.

No idea how the two should be related, maybe just the reset from disconnecting the battery, but it went away.

I've now got the intermittent oil light.....

the battery situation is interesting , as mine is the original, and somehow when one warning lamp gets a bit wobbly, the other one does also, i wonder if anyone else can shed some light on this

I would appriciate any info as I have the same problem and is one of the reasons I joined this forum and thread. The light started intermittently and is now on continuously, which sound like the same.
Thanks
