Does the light stay on or does it flash at you when pulling away?

Hmmm sounds familiar!

Had a similar problem on my 320 CLK.

Took it to the dealer who looked at it said all was fine-releaved.

Next time it came on when I was trying to break heavily on a single track short cut to another hospital - found myself a little sideways and using a bit of verge!

Popped to another branch where I watched while they ran the diagnostics - amazing the lap top shows just how far the break peddle has travelled, how hard it has been pressed and the power assist/abs.

Then popped up an icon saying if driver reports no problem reset unit if problem replace part...I cursed the previous dealer ---> new break unit (servo) later no problems....

Ask the seniors what they think but a quick diagnostic may help.

If you check this forum the Brake light switch gives more problems than anything else, the fault applies to most cars post 95 ish but not all. Though the brake light will always work, it is the comunication with the data buses that fails.

Yes it will leave a recorded fault in the data memory, this data does not clear itself as a key fault does, but it does not do any harm, and can be erased at anytime when the car is on a workshop visit.

Fault finding by remote third party is never easy for the best part one can give guidence, and there are few threads where one can say that it is X for sure, new faults happen and appear every day. The last thing that most of us here do not want, is for the man with the problem to buy parts he does not need.
As often said here ,even if the fault is beyond the scope of DIY, one has a little more confidence at the dealers if you know a little of what you are talking about. Sorry to go on.

i've just replaced the switch on my c230k, the bas esp light was coming on occasionaly, pulled the old switch apart, the main contacts were very burnt, i'll let you know if the light re-appears.

p.s. the switch was only £8.48 inc. vat from MB dealer

A man after my own heart, take it apart to see what happened. If a small cap was fitted over the contacts, the switches would last 10 times longer. inductive loads really burn the contacts.
