hi, my 2004 ML270 has had the BAS ESP ABS and another E one come on fr around 1 week now. They are usually lit up when I brake and then stay on until I turn off engine, but sometimes they stay off or sometimes they are on constantly! If I brake gently it feels like I can put my foot right to the road underneath and it feels like it won't stop! Today the warning triangle appeared for a few seconds.
My brakes have been squeaking and we keep meaning to change them for proper Merc ones- does anyone know how to stop these lights & do you think it is just the brake pads causing it all?

Any suggestions greatfully received!!

Thanks.

I have seen references on here with regard to faulty brake light switches, its worth a check,..... the brake assist will pull ur pedal in until the vehicle stops...or pedal released ..

Yes as said change the brake light switch £9 and easy to fit,,its sits over the pedal.

Its possible that the pads have not been greased when the y were fitted

This is spooky - I was going to post exactly the same as our Ml270 2002 is doing the same.

This morning it was like mission space - abs, yellow triangle !, ets, bas

Does yours also judder like the abs is kicking in at low speeds? We also have a mechanical noise when moving off just like the pad is sticking to the disc.

When the car was in for a service my local indie mentioned there were no current falut codes but it could be the brake light box. (I think he mentioned about 12 ish)

Let me know how you get on as this is the first glitch since buying the car (almost 2 years)

PS excellent indie - stuttgart garage Pontypridd/S Wales.

next time it comes on put the car in park leave the engine running and keep turning the steering wheel left to right on full lock until the lights go off, this will reset it and you might not need to buy a part.

Sounds like this is a fairly common thing.

My ML55 also lights the BAS, ESP and ABS lights. Happens within 10 seconds of driving if it's going to. Happens whether the brake pedal he been depressed or not. If it doesn't come on at the start of a journey, it won't come on at all. Used to do it 3 our of 4 times the engine was started, but went about 6 journeys yesterday without doing it once...

Could it still be the brake light switch, even if it doesn't actually happen when the brake pedal is pressed?

I was chatting to a guy recently who seemed to think it would be the ABS pump which would need to sent off to be reconditioned..?

The brake light switch is a common one for this, it does not matter if it is pressed or not, it is the inside that fails, shorting out. Only £10 and easy to fit

If you do decide to do this, be kind to your steering components by getting some cheap glossy mags and position the front wheels over them before you start to turn the wheel. It removes the friction between the tyre and road surface.

The other way is to just drive off down the road, turning the wheel as you go,people will think that you are a little worse for drink, but that is the way that I do it:D

I take it requires STAR then Malcolm.:-(

If you disconnect the battery the ESP always needs to be re set by turning the wheel 3 times form lock to lock and it will go out if there is no ESP fault. It does not need STAR

Fitted the new brake light switch today. (£12).
The journey from dealer to home was fine. But then next trip, on they come again :-(
Tried the very slow driving and did 4 lock-to-locks and they stayed on.

Any other simple things to do or is it time for professional help?
