hi,

Just bought a SLK 230 kompressor from 2000, driven only 58 000 kms. car was stored on winter. battery flat after last winter. had to be reloaded completely again from battery importer.
Then started with light BAS/ESP on dashboard, not at starting the car, but when breaking first time on a tour.
Codes from MB test showed :
ESP : fault code C1529 HW.version 42.1999, SW.version 42.1999 Diagversion 128/5 pin 9 fault "f" small cap f
BAS: fault code C1000-008 HW.version 31.1998, SW.version 18.1999Diagversion 128/0 pin 9 fault "f" small cap f
I was said that c1000 is a fatal error defect. need to change the ESP component. Quite expensive...Got it done.
Now, Light BAS/ESP still coming up but not when breaking first time but after a while driving (few kms). Staying on.
Asked for a new test: result fault C1142 (ABS Lateral Acceleration Sensor Open/Shorted).
I am asked to change this unit as well.... Again quite expensive...

Any smart advice ?

Many thanks from a Lady who does not know anything about all this!

Hi,
Thanks. I found few threads on it.
With your experience, based on the info given, was it necessary to change the ESP component in the first place ? (it was so expensive!) Can I get the ESP component taken of(that I kept ) tested somewhere ?
If the pb is this switch, what is the meaning of these codes that you get on running MB tests ?
I am driving soon in winter with icy roads and I need to feel safe!
Many thanks for all.

Another thing after a battery change is that the steering angle sensor needs to be reset by turning the wheel from lock to lock. However that will show up straight away and not when braking.
Who read the fault codes?

Thanks alot.

The codes were given by MB dealer garage. I asked for the print. Print shows first DAS test all OK. 2nd test shows error codes as mentioned 30 minutes later. They said 1st test was a reset. I got a pricing for changing the ESP component completely. Around 1200 euros. All documented.
I then heard that when fault is "f" small caps on the test it does not need to be fatal defect component. It would then be "F" in big letters. Went to another garage with test. They confirmed c1000 error in their test and need change the ESP component. I did so then... Still light BAS/ESP coming up as said, now they say error fault C1142... New high budget change sensor...
I have questions marks...They do not talk about what I am reading here at all...
Then, I have tried the steering wheel stuff but no change...
I will change this brake pedal switch and see then. It is not expensive to do...
But as well meanwhile, day after small service 55000 km at MB dealer, got light tank engine cooling fluid on dashboard. Went back to MB dealer. They said that was due to leak in windscreen fluid tank that they had found out... Sounds strange to me, not same sign on dashboard ... but they said sensors mounted in parallel... The fact is ventilator did not start when needed. I changed the thermostat. Still not working. Went to another garage, they found a cable rupture. But after repair, light still on all time on dashboard. The 2nd garage says it would be a long time to find out what it comes from and that I could try to park in steep road and accelerate several times to get it gone. Isn't it weird all this ?
I do not know about all this but I feel I am facing people who do not know so much either... and I feel quite far from MB marketing promises...

Thanks for your feedback.
