Firstly - as I am a new member, can anyone tell me if this website is different to the website mbclub.co.uk as I have registered for both but they look quite similar? I am not sure if I have a question whether I should post it on both sites or just on one?
Secondly, I have already posted a thread on this subject on the other website, but just in case there is anyone who has new suggestions, let me explain this problem.
On my 1999 SL320 (which I have only owned for 3 months), when I start the ignition as soon as I press on the brake pedal the BAS ESP warning light comes on and stays on permanently. I had the brake light switch changed by my local garage recently (not a Merc dealer), and it was replaced with a new switch supplied from Mercedes. Since the brake light switch was changed the warning light problem now seems worse than before - prior to this the warning light was coming on but it was more intermittent. The garage which fitted the new switch confirmed to me that it is definitely a Mercedes supplied part, and that they fitted the switch correctly.
I have also tried turning the steering wheel from lock to lock 3 times, but this didn't have any effect.
When the warning light is on it doesn't seem to have any impact on the performance of the car, but is just very irritating to have this light on permanently on the display.
Do any members have any other suggestions on what might be causing this problem?
Many thanks to anyone who replies.
Andrew
