Please can somebody help me? I have a W reg 2000 A class 170 DCi and the BAS ESP light is on pretty much most of the time. It drives fine and I've taken it to my local garage who have always looked it - and I trust - they assure me that they can't find anything wrong with it. I called my nearest mercedes dealer and they want over £100 just to put it on their computer never mind fix anything. Bearing in mind that the car is probably not worth that much and I was thinking about swapping it in for something a bit bigger anyway I really don't want to go throwing hundreds of pounds at it. I can't help but think that it's something small and silly. Please help.

It might be the brake light switch as with the 210s. If it is the same problem replacing or adjusting this switch fixes it. Sometimes turning the ignition off and waiting ten seconds may reset it to normal mode.

Yes the brake light switch at £9 must be worth doing,, just one 17mm nut above the brake pedal

I am feeling better already guys, thankyou. However I am blonde. Please enlighten me! More information please, I've only just joined the forum so I'm not familiar even with your most common topics. I'd be really grateful for any help. Yours, in anticipation. D X.

There is a switch over the brake pedal and you must replace it

Thankyou Malcolm, do I just get this from my local merc dealer? Is there a proper name for it, or will they know what I need if I explain the problem? I'm sorry to be so in need of information it's just that you guys are the only ones anywhere who have had the slightest clue or been willing to help at all. Really really grateful. D x.

sorry again malcolm but its just a twist and turn and out it comes, did one monday, anyway, going back to monday, had the same fault on a manual 170, turned out to be front n,s rpm sensor, again cheap as chips, other fault common on those is the ESP control unit, not so cheap!!!!!

Right, so I go to my local merc dealership and ask for a ' brake light switch' it's a 17mm nut just above the brake pedal, it twists out .... and my husband replaces it? Fabulous. Please confirm colechelle, Malcolm......

Forever in your debt. D xx.

Ignore the 17mm nut,, that was incorrect,,you need just the switch and hope that it cures it

BAS ESP light

Thanks for your help last week guys. I got the brake light light switch from my local merc dealership. Initially the light stayed off. The next day it came on intermittently. And that pattern has continued, it's not on anything like as much, but still makes unwelcome appearances. In previous posts I've read something about a 'pressure sensor' can anybody elaborate please?

Many thanks in anticipation.

D xx

I have this problem almost every time I use my power washer on an Eclass 300. It appears that water might be affecting a wheel sensor .after a short run the problem sorts itself out and the system returns to normal.

Hi. My BAS ESP ABS light has come on and after reading the comments from various memebrs, i am convinced that it is the Brake Light Switch.

Can someone please give me some instructions on how to change the switch. I really do apologise for my complete ignorance on this topic.

Thanks alot

Not only BRAKE SWITCH

Not only brake switch make the BUS/EPS light go ON, on my A190 the air in the line did same thing, when I turn the ignition on light = OFF but after few brakes, the light BUS/EPS + ABS come ON, turn the engine off and restart everything is fine till using few times the brake. I check the switch (nothing wrong working perfectly), so I start to check the EPS module and same thing in mean time I disconnect the brake line so must breaded, WOW the problem is GONE.
Hope my experience will help someone else

Saw a C-class with similar last week, the fault recorded will be to do with the BAS travel sensor, or possibly the pressure sensor.
