Hi,

I wonder does anyone have similar problems as well, basicly i was driving today towards work which is a 1 hr jounerney. After 30 min driving, my car (C220 CDI Coupe - 5 years old) pop a red message on the dash saying "Battery/Alternator Visit Workshop". I wonder whats this error mean? Do i have faulty battery or altnernator problems? Is this urgent problem?

Because at the moment I'm in work, and i was worry, i may not have the battery to drive back home and get it checked tommorrow in the gaurage. >_<

If someone can give me some suggestion and guideline, that would be great! :p

Thanks!

Warren

Yes this is an urgent problem, as the battery could go flat, do you have a Bosch service center nearby, its the cheapest option, more than likely just the diode pack

The first 'basic' thing to check is that the alternator drive belt hasn't failed (though i doubt this as you would overheat due to the water pump not being driven).

If the problem is that the battery isn't charging then i'm not sure if i would undertake a 1 hour journey as the battery is likely to fully discharge during that time and cause the engine to stop. Might be an idea to call out your recovery provider (if you have one) and let them trailer it to the nearest MB dealer.

Hi Alex, it normally means that the brush pack needs replacement it held on the rear of the alternator with 2 screws, they cost about £10 from bosch service centers or GSF or Euro car parts

Exact same error on my S Class was caused by a faulty alternator regulator (£40)
If it had been the alternator.........£500 !!!!!!

good luck
