Battery Charger Lead Positions

Hi Guys

The negative terminal on the battery of my Ford Edge is so difficult, if not impossible, to reach the negative pole that I connect the negative battery charger lead to a common earth on the body of the car, is there anything wrong with doing this or is it quite acceptable please.

I regularly use the top of the front suspesion as a negative for trickle charging my SLK as there is an emergency +ve but not -ve, and it's worked fine for years.
