Hi all, I went to start my C240 on Saturday and all I had was the dreaded click! The car has been sat in my garage for about 3 weeks through the cold weather so I half expected this problem.
I popped down to the local Halfords got myself a power pack/starter. The guy in the shop said it should have some charge allready and would probably start the car. So having got the car started I read the instructions for the power pack. It said it needed to be charged every 3 months regardless of use. I will never remember to do this so this item will be of no use to me as it will probably be knackered when I need to use it again!
I have looked on line and ordered a CTEK Battery charger and conditioner as recommended by Auto Express. It is designed to be left connected to the car battery and will top it up when needed, thus meaning the car should start even if left for several weeks.
My question is, is it safe to leave this device conected to the battery with the boot lid shut? And could it damage the car's electrical system? the car is a '99 C240 auto.

Yes the wire is very thin, just make sure that there a no sharp edges where the cable and it will be OK. do not forget that the wire could come out of the top of the boot, near the screen

We recommend the Ctec its good.

Thanks for that Malcom, I guess the cable is better off coming out at the top as there is not much gap between the bottom edge of the boot lid and the bumper. Hopefuly this won't damage the seal? The guy at Halfords said they dont sell battery conditioners as they don't think they are safe. I guess this is probably sour grapes as CTEK won't deal with them?

I have been using Ctek on E220cdi and I run cable from boot via lower lip just to left of boot lock with no problems. No water or snow entered boot and no apparent damage to cable over past year. Fly leads permanently attached to battery. Vehicle parked on drive all the time.

I purchased 3600 model as it can also be used to maintain my two scooter batteries, also fitted with Ctek fly leads as permanent fixing.

Highly recommended

Hope this helps

The C tec a Swedish invention, out sell any other charger in the world, a poor comment from Halfords
