Has anyone ever fitted an isolation switch.
I mean the type with the box of tricks under the bonnet and a remote which saves lifting the bonnet to disconect.
Its all to do with my ongoing battery drain.

Latest info on battery drain which is an ongoing saga.
Over 2 months now trying to solve it. I still have the engine managment light permanently on. I cant clear it. Car is driving perfect. I can thrash it all i want it still drives buetiffully.
Cant reset service intervals usi g the dashboard and stearing wheel buttons or i carsoft.
Recap
Battery drain is 6amp 4 amp after going to sleep.
Using icarsoft mb2 have just done a scan only thing that came up was circuit 30 has a malfunction
Battery charging at 14.5volts battery holding at about 12.5volts when disconnected. If not disconnected will go flat overnight. Auxiliary battery is good showing about 12.8 to 13 volts.
Pulled every fuse and relay and still had the drain.
Changed alternator. Thats ok so battery not draining back to regulator. Disconnected all power from front seats no change
Icarsoft says front and rear sams are ok. Have disconnected the alarm siren which is underneath the nearside front wing. I repeat nearside.
after all info from the main stealer said it was under drivers side. Thick indeviduals. cos its German they think we are all riding around in left hookers.
still had the same drain so reconnected it.
So has anyone got any ideas other than chucking a match in it.
Any help and advice appreciated

I personally would consider the money better spent on resolving the fault than hiding it for 8 Hours a day, or thereabouts, if you don't possess the technical ability or tools and test equipment yourself, there are plenty of qualified and experienced people in the business who I'm sure would be only too happy to assist?

Look for a local auto-electrician if you prefer to not take the car to a dealer - needs STAR diagnosis really as you’ve pulled all the fuses

I agree.
But the problem is give someone it for a couple of days and all of a sudden i could be into hundreds of pounds for labour before they find it and if they do actually find it.
Im a pensioner so am happy to potter along searching. Whith help from you guys and While we have feasonable weather.
When i check on google a lot of people do go for a switch because they and the professionals cant find the problem

Don't believe all you read on t'internet, no self respecting professional would ever give up and fit such a device, Electricity is an exact science and fault finding a skill that develops with experience, as @malcolm210 has advised at post #4 find a local man and talk to him, set a budget if you're concerned about funds you may be surprised! Richard Hollings https://www.rhautoservices.co.uk/ is a York based MB Specialist I have found to be a knowledgeable and fair man.

So i am going to have one last go

Stop start agm 80 ah battery was new fitted just over a year ago with a 5year guarantee.
When reading exclusions its vertually impossible to get anykind of refund from any company other than merc.to honour the battery warranty.
I have fitted a £5 ISOLATION SWITCH. On reading on google thousands of people are fitting then because the profesionals cant find the problem that exists to their vehicle.
When this car moves on i will replace it with another merc
If i can find a good 30year old 124 diesel.
Plenty of petrol about so diesel are scarce.
Anyone ever buy a jap merc inport..
Will be closing this thread within a week..

Have a look at this, all you need is a multi meter and follow the charts he provides. It has helped others, good luck.

Could it be the starter motor pulling the power?

No.

4 Amps is so big draw, a heat camera could reveal it... just recently one W204 owner found a relay of the engine ECU which triggered when raining (though everything dry inside) and causing much smaller current draw, by measuring heat of components.

Done the heat thermometer with the red lazer dot. Good idea. Checked everything
No luck

Its solved. Its fixed

After about 3 months i have got there.

Let that be a lesson to me and any of you.
I was happy to stick it out.
if i hadnt put on the new alternator i would have saved quite a bit.
The next time my little man has to go into that area i will get him to swop it out and sell it on when the car is sold sometime in the future.
So let that be a lesson to me and anyone else.
Well thats the end of this particular saga.
I dare with hindsight say.
if i had taken it to an auto electrician the chances are he would have sorted it straight away for less than 30 quid
but thats with hindsight.
So the lesson learned is expect the unexpected and that a guarantee isnt worth the paper its written on especially if its for a battery.
The stop start battery that i had fitted which had a 5 year gaurentee had failed after only 1 year and a couple of months. The exclusions on the warranty ment that there was more chance of winning the lottery than any kind of compensation
I have fitted a varta from tayna batts at just £155. Merc wanted £240.
The battery was itself the drain
The £5 isolation switch did its job and saved a lot of messing about. i hope now that this saga is over it will help some other struggling hard up indevidual
Ps. Stay away from advanced battery supplies

Happy you've got it sorted and closed the thread off with a successful resolution, so many omit to do this last part! I have one last question though, what was the make and chemistry i.e. Wet, AGM or Gel of the failed battery?

It was an agm.80ah.correct for said vehicle. Model number if i remember was 110
Just a further note. Please dont purchase using vehicle reg number alone. Always measure up.
When i used reg number and checked measurements the ones offered were to big for battery tray.
