Hi
2002 R230 SL55, new consumer battery fitted but only charges up after a run, only seems to charge to about 20% with charger then stops. It is though the drain is more then what the charger can put in? any ideas what can cause this drain before I take it to the garage\/

Have you tested your alternator to see if its putting out the right juice.

I've had that problem, after my car sat for a few years, it needed a number of faults cleared.

Also some people report excessive current drain if the car is not actually off. Try threading the charger cable through the trunk lid, closing the trunk and locking the car...

From what you indicated, your drain is more than your charger can put out... what is your charger rated at? (amps)

There is also info on here ref equipment that fails to go to sleep when you lock the car. You can get a bit of kit for 20 quid that plugs into fuse holder slots

this will indicate if a fused line is drawing current.

Search on you tube for “Parasitic Drain”
there are good guides on how to trace it to a particular fuse.
You then have to identify components and trace.

R230’s are notorious for systems not switching off and draining the battery - Comand being one of the main culprits
