Hi,

My 1998 E320 finally refused to start on monday, a new battery was installed by my local Mercedes dealer here in Frankfurt. He was surprised to see the original still in place, question is, has anyone else exceeded six and a half years with an original battery?

regards,

I believe the C still has the original battey ('95). I know my 2000 E has and there are no signs of any problems with either. Batteries are branded and typed (no of Amp Hours) so whoever does the right battery at the right price would get my business, dealer or otherwise.

10 years from my last one. I had one for 11 years on a VW Variant 73, but mid 70's VWs they were famous for longevity, battery-wise. To replace, I just orderd the same amp-hour capacity Hoppecke from the local motor factors. Cheaper than Costco, who seem next best bet for vfm.

Diesels eat them quicker

My E300D eats lone about every 4 years , I 'm on my third. But then Diesels take much more amps to start then gas infact if you try to start with normal jump leads they melt!

I have an E200 W210, battery died after 4 years. Depends on whether you do long or short trips. Lots of short trips, lower life. It was the high capacity battery too! For automatics with air/climate and other gadgets you need a high capacity cell. Mine cost 90quid at Kwik-Fit, but I was stuck and left without time to choose...!

I've had 10 years on the "new" (Mercedes) battery on my 250TD and it's still going strong

I think they're better than aftermarket batteries. They may be more expensive but they last well and, in my experience, represent better value for money than "cheap" batteries
