Flat battery on e320 cdi. Got told it would be bad to jump start it. Bought Heavy Duty Booster starter, had no luck with that. Took battery out of car and charged it over night but meter reading still low. Not yet tried it since charging. The present battery is the original Mercedes battery (4 years old). Would i be best to go with another Mercedes battery or would any other make of battery do as good job? I would be most greatful if anyone could help me with this query.

The last battery I purchased was for my old W202, it was a Varta 100 amp and MB wanted £154 + VAT for it, I picked the identical battery up locally for £98 all in. Pays to shop around.

4 years is not bad for a battery, the booster starters are not good either for the electrics.

New battery, go for Bosch,Varta or Banner as OE to MB, other first class brands are Exide,Lucas. do not get a house name from Halfords.

best prices from a Bosch service center Cosco and Parts co also MB commercial
do good prices.

I would also recommend Tayna. Very competitive price and excellent service.

I replaced the original battery last month, it lasted 7 years. Replacement cost me €90 includiung VAT, about £61. Same size and rating but without the MB badge on it.

Wow.
I shopped around and found my local dealers gave the best price, £48 for my E430. They even offered to fit it for free, but I did it outside their parts shop and they took the old battery away for me.

The original battery was definately passed it - 8 years old, only half full of fluid. Even after topping up and several cycles with an electronic charger (took 72hours the first time) it wouldn't hold a charge overnight.

Easy to fit, just had to rememeber to reset the electric windows for their auto stops.

Television further up is correct, Banner is a small battery manufacturer based in Linz Austria and their quality is pretty good. Bosch do not make batteries any more, it is all made by Varta with factories across the continent. To choose a battery make sure you replace the Amp/hr specification like for like (or slightly higher). Halford and Charlie Brown get their batteries made by Varta and opthers and unfortunately also Chinese manufacturers. By definition, for the same battery spec, choose the heaviest. A leisure battery (for caravans) or heavy duty battery (for trucks and tractors) will have a longer expected life as glassmat is used between the plates to keep the active material in place. A battery oxidises in summer and dies in winter, it is always a good idea to trickle charge your battery overnight in November to have it in best condition for those winter months. At the end of the day it's weight and cost (£/Kg) that matters.
