Hi,

A friend of mine has a 99 c180, i changed the battery and since then car seems to be driving slugish.
Is there the possiblity this is a coincidence or is there a service mode that the car will go into when the battery has been dissconnected?

Cheers guys, much appreciated

Low voltage can leave a lot of fault codes on the computers and needs to be reset. And yes there could be another problem. First clear the fault codes and then road test the car.

I changed the battery on my c180.

The day I changed the battery the car cut out twice and then again a couple of times over the next week.

I took it in to a good garage. No fault was found, but the mecanic said my old battery would have showed low volts the new battery obviously had higher volts. This probably had messed up the system (like eric said)
Cars fine now.

Good to hear that, low voltage can put so many fault codes on the computers and most of them will not affect the car. It only takes one fault code in the right place to imobilize your car, or create problems that you would rather not have.:(

Interesting topic folks. Can the codes be deleted by a 'lay man' and if, so how? Or is this the sole province of an MB Mechy with his trusty de-scrambler?

With an early C180 any garage could check it and erase if necessary .
I would have driven the car a bit first to see if it clears itself.

Thank you for your answer, as it is very unusual for fault codes to appear after changing the battery, especially to make the car sluggish.

Can you give more info on the sluggish, was there any throttle hesitation or chocking whilst trying to increase RPM.

alot of hesitation

Yea, alot of hesitation especially in 2nd and 3rd gears, at one stage car would barely go above 30mph.
