Battery Replacement.

The wifes 2004 c class T model needs a new battery. I have been given an exact spec nearly new Mercedes battery but it is an AGM type. I cannot see AGM on the current unit so question one. Where they fitted with AGM as early as this, and two, if not can I simply swop them over?

my 04 e class had agm . agm is a better battery than lead acid .

The only drawback of installing a battery whose chemistry doesn't match an OEM product will be that the charging algorithms (times and voltages) will not match the new battery for best performance and could in fact damage the replacement battery over time, if it's free, it will work but not to it's best capability and you have nothing to lose but if you're buying a replacement it would be advisable to replace like for like OEM.

It could well be the proper battery in there at present as it is a Mercedes one, it just isn't marked agm as far as I can see, unlike the donor unit where the label shows VRLA/AGM.

I bought one of these for my C W203 as the other lasted 11 years and I can still use it for a jump start. I think the usual is 85AH but when I checked the build for the car it was specified 100AH not much difference in price.
