Battery sign lit up red on malfuntions?

Hi Everybody, Just bought a w211 e320cdi 2002 model, few problems allready first being that the car is showing one malfunction a" red lit up battery "emblem in the speedo? car starts ok was thinking maybe last owner fitted a new battery and fault code still there? is this possible? Also something not electrical the key for the wheelnuts is missing! and i need the wheels off to put new tyres on, i have tried the dealers for a matching key but no luck and they want to charge me £97 to smash them off! any better ideas very wellcome many thanks Dave

The red sign would suggest that the alternator may have stopped charging, if the wheel bolts are all non MB then I dont know what top do about that

The regualtor is common for your fault, about £40 for the part, as for the wheel bolts, you can buy a set of extractors for locking wheel bolts!

Check for charging with engine running and its showing 14+volts so alternator OK, the locking wheel bolts are genuine Merc thanks Dave

Yes agreed, your getting an output voltage, the regultor is still causing the warning light!

On the rear of the alternator, held in with 2 screws, has the main lead bolted to it!!
