Very confused!! Hope someone can help?
I've been told if a new battery is fitted, it has to be 'coded' to car to allow the alternator to charge at correct output?
Is this genuine, or are they just trying to squeee more money out of me???
Thanx for looking!

Some do . some dont.

My 2010 CLS didnt , my 2017 BMW does as does my 2019 Porker so possibly dependent on vehicle age.

Registration / coding is pretty straight forward with a decent scan tool like an iCarsoft (other makes are available)

Yes, my 2014 BMW is the same requires coding so that the Battery Management System knows you have fitted a new battery to stop the alternator charging at too high a rate and killing the new battery

Never heard of that on MB's & I have changed batteries. If its true then its just a cash cow, the alternators processor sets the charging rate to the battery.
