Hello again got the dreaded light's on the dash and was wondering if anyone had managed to get this sorted and point me in the right direction? Car is a ml320 w163 02 reg had the codes read and found driver's side wheel sensor to be at fault so this was replaced and still got the light's everything works as it should and no problems driveing, tyre's are all good your thoughts please... Not necessarily - the "Brake" light switch is multi-part - lights can work but ESP and ABS warnings

So as it's a cheaper part and easy to replace would it be worth it to replace as I was on the understanding it was for break light's only? This would make sense?

Yes definitely my 210 went through two switches in 90k miles symptoms are esp, abs etc lighting up the dash. If the switch wears it doesn’t communicate with the abs causing the warning, easy cheap fix

Brake switch is interconnected with Esp, abs, etc. Easy and inexpensive to replace.
But before you go this route, have you cleared historic codes? Your lights may still be showing if this has not been done.

be aware.
The face lift W163 does not have a brake light switch fitted at the pedal, it is located in the master cylinder and unlike the early cars hardly ever fails. It may be worth you checking under the dash and see if one is fitted, or just a hole where it should be. As yours is on the balance of change could be either one.
The Steering angle sensor is also connected with these lights, and there have been instances where the ABS unit wiring has been rubbed through on the frame causing these lights to come up.
Sorry to be a downer !!!!!!

There is something else that i hesitate to mention.
I had esp/bas/abs lights up some while ago, i had a fella reset them with a scanner but they kept coming back, the only fault he could find was "steering angle sensor reset required, perform road test"
I could not find out what this was for ages, and was about to take it to Mercedes and have open wallet surgery, however, i found a star document on line (dont ask me how) about steering angle reset. Its a serious of precise turns and driving at a certain speed.
I found an empty car park and did the reset, it worked and lights have never come back, well not at the moment.
The cause was unknown as to why this happened.

I have logged it somewhere, and will try to find it in case you require it.

Ok, found the thread on another forum i use...........

Flabbergasted, never has my gasted been so flabbered !!!!!!!!!!! IT WORKED
After 10 days of driving with the ABS light on, and it was unable to be reset by scanner, just kept coming back on, after a lot of research on line, found the drive test process. I did it just once, light went out at end of test, driven about 20 miles since, stopped and restarted about 10 times, still not come back on, so fingers crossed, resolved. In case any other member has same issue, here is the process copied from a STAR document.

using scanner, ensure there are no uncleared fault codes, and only the "road test" fault is present, end diagnostic and disconnect scanner.

Road Test
1. Switch off ignition
2. Start engine
3. press ESP off switch, ESP warning light and BAS/ESP light will come on, ESP will now be switched off
Note. The road test must be conducted with-in 15 seconds
4. Drive the vehicle forward at approximately 6-10 mph (must keep constant speed)
5. After a short distance (few yards) turn the vehicle left and then right. The steering wheel should be turned between 90 and 180 degrees.
6. with in 10 seconds begin turning a quarter circle and then briefly steer in the other direction.

The lights will go out if successful. If not repeat process from 1. Its important not to turn steering wheel more than 180 degrees, I marked the top with a bit of masking tape so I knew where it was all the time. You must also keep to the correct speed.

It worked for me, I hope it may help someone else out.
