They must have been dropped from some height if thats the case!! They are all freshly refurbed too, not a mark on them, so getting a match may be difficult. The other front one isn't great either. Need to test the rears next really, I'm a bit fed up now though!
Hi,
Sorry to read this, I had a similar carry on with a German ebayer, bought a set of supposed 8 hole sportline wheels with matching numbers, when they arrived, 3 were non mercedes rims and 1 was a pucca rim with a luverly flat spot, the a--e hole just wasnt interest and it cost me quite a lot of money, so be warned only hand over folding stuff once youve seem them, buying blind is risky.
If they are refurbished wheels, they have been over a large pothole at some time. The flat spot is in a weak area of the wheel.
The strongest part of a wheel is where the wheel rim is joined to the hub, the other edge of the rim is the weakest point. The wider the wheel, the weaker it is.
I really feel for you, that's a real bummer. Could I ask who you got these wheels from as I'm looking around at the moment for some 18" rims and don't want to end up buying from the same guy by the sound of things. Hope you get things sorted soon.
I paid by Paypal so thats not a problem, I've also been in contact with the seller over the phone. Just waiting for them to get back to me once they have seen the video and pics.
I've examined all the other wheels now, so would appreciate any feedback because I want to know if they will balance or if they are all no good. Every one has a bend, as said above already, every bend is in the weakest point of the wheel.
Front wheel number one video is at the top of the thread, we know thats no good.
Front wheel number two, ok or not? It does have a bend:
Rear wheel number one, also has a slight bend. Ok or not?
Rear wheel number 2, again is bent. Ok or not?
Thanks for all your input so far! This is not what I wanted to be talking about as a newbie!
As 100% says put in a claim fast and you should be able to stop the seller getting his money. If you can pass on the video that is excellent evidence, did you pay for transit insurance? just in case he tries to claim it was transit damage - either way don't give up.
Hi,
Welcome to the forum,
Sorry to hear about your dilemma, you,ve made me think twice as I,m after a set of AMG alloys for my C230K, which i had intended to buy off of E-bay.
I will be honest with you I don,t think I would want any of those wheels in that condition, have you heard back from the seller yet?
The seller won't get the money until I leave positive feedback or 20ish days pass after the sale under the new ebay/paypal rules. My brother had this exact problem with wheels over Ebay which he resolved no problems so he can help! I paid £400 + delivery just incase anyone wondered!
I bought a set of 17" wheels for my E300TD and when they arrived one of them had a flat spot like yours, i even took a video similar to yours to send to the seller. The seller was Murry wheels and he paid the £40 or so for me to take the wheel to a refurb specialist to get the damage rolled out which i thought was very fair.
The damage was rolled out almost perfect but to this day i have never been able to get those wheels vibration free, yes they will balance but i have always been able to detect a vibration at certain speeds, vibration is gone when i put my 18" AMG wheels on.
My advice is to return them and dont even think about trying to settle for a repair.
Sorry, feel for you in this situation, i know how bad i was when only one was bad.
Bit of an update, sent them back and got a full refund including all postage costs. Very good seller IMO, spoke to him yesterday and he agreed before even seeing them on the balancer that they had flat spots!
So I'm back in the market for wheels. Oh well, they looked so good aswell!!
